She was a singer in a club. She had a gangster boyfriend called Vince. One day she accidentally witnessed a brutal murder carried out by Vince and his friends. Bill who was a detective trying to bring down Vince’s criminal operation, offered to protect Cartier. He placed her in a convent. She disguised herself as a sister and she was renamed sister Mary Clare. The sisters in the convent harshly received her because of her lifestyle. It was hard for her to adjust to life in there since she was used to life in the pubs. According to her, the kind of music in the convent was not entertaining. She wanted to make it entertaining by introducing some club techniques such as jazz to the gospel world, which she succeeded.

1. The path-goal theory.
She encouraged the choir by showing them the path to follow that is by arranging them according to their voices. She trained them on their vocals. She was supportive, participative and she oriented on achieving her goals.
2. Vroom’s expectant theory.
She trained the choir because she expected them to sing better. She concentrated on individual factors such as ability, skills and experience. Under her leadership as a choir instructor, the choir flourished it even attracted the pope’s attention and the community. She was a good leader. She worked with the nuns as a team and her being their leader. She was intelligent, transparent and she treated other with dignity and respect. She made the nuns to sing and collect money on the streets as a team.

She was a preserved old woman. She was in charge of the convent. She was firm in her decisions and did not entertain any unbecoming behaviors. She was a sensible leader and considerate because she allowed Cartier to stay and hide in the convent although she knew Cartier’s work. She was full of humility and generous. Her leadership can simply be described as a mixture of virtue, generosity and great love to all. She treated others with dignity and fairness. She showed love and generosity to Cartier by protecting and hiding her in the convent. Even though she did not like the nuns singing on the streets, she was sensible when she found them doing so. She upheld the integrity of the nuns by not embarrassing them in public.

She was able to work with a group of nuns. She supported them in every way possible. By providing moral support to the choir, she encouraged them to perform to their best.
2. Team theory
She was a team leader as she looked after the nuns and taught them what they should or should not do. Her role was purely organizational. As a leader, she organized the convent.
Leadership in this movie is applied in all occupations from the club singer to the nuns to the detective and even to the criminals. Even Vince was a leader to his gang. He was an instructor, authoritative and cruel. However, the style of leadership differs from one individual to another.
